TNT worked with a business that is a family owned and operated textile company that has had to “redo” itself as textiles in the South evolved. They have consolidated operations and have used technology to support their operations.
After consulting with the business leadership, TNT helped them consolidate technology to better support their operations. The Network Team designed and implemented Microsoft's Hyper-V for Server Virtualization, and Citrix's XenDesktop for desktop Virtualization. All servers are maintained with Microsoft's System Center. Both wired and wireless networks are using Cisco Borderless Networking . All voice and messaging are done using Cisco Unified Communications.
In the past, ongoing engineering was extensive, and when a user device malfunctioned, it took several people to get it replaced. Someone had to call Dell to order a machine, then, after it arrived, it had to be configured for their network and the applications that the end user needed.
Support for three shifts of manufacturing is much less complicated with Desktop Virtualization. When a device malfunctions, employees can use any other device, with any configuration, plug it into the network, and in a matter of minutes, they are operational with the applications needed to do their job. Remote access is also streamlined, as the desktop experience is no longer associated with the device employees are using.
Virus outbreaks are easily mitigated, applications are quickly deployed without the use of burdensome group policies, and the end user experience is predictable and controlled. Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) is not the security and administrative nightmare that many companies are facing. It is embraced.
